Corey Perry Signs Contract Extension With Ducks

Posted By Michelle Speaker On March 19, 2013 @ 2:27 AM In NHL | No Comments

The Anaheim Ducks just locked up Corey Perry to an eight-year contract extension.

Update: it turns out he’s getting a bit more than Getzlaf. Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos reports that the deal totals $69 million over eight years, $3 million more than Getzlaf’s.

It also includes a no-movement clause, according to HNIC’s Elliotte Friedman.

With that contract inked, the vaunted Perry-Getzlaf duo will carry a combined $16.9 million cap hit between them starting in 2013-14. Those deals are set to expire in 2020-21.

This contract will cover the remainder of Perry’s prime. At 27 years old, he’s still a difference maker (at least when he’s not suspended).

Ducks management now faces some tough questions about the rest of their financial structure, as they’ll have about $53 million committed to 16 players next season. It’s likely that will force the team to part ways with a key player or two, but it’s clear that Getzlaf and Perry remain the core of one of the NHL’s biggest surprise squads.
