Colts Cut Former Gators Star Rainey for Horsing Around?
NFL News: Did a Fire Extinguisher lead to Rainey’s Release?
After signing with the Indianapolis Colts last season it appeared that former University of Florida star, and Lakeland native, Chris Rainey, was set to make a name for himself in the NFL. But now, Rainey is on the streets after being cut for what the Colts are calling a violation of team rules.
During Thursday’s preseason game with the Jets, Rainey took to Twitter and voiced his displeasure with being cut for something that had nothing to do with his on-field performance.
“Yea I’m piss watching the colts game when I should be out there, too. Even tho i didn’t break no f**kin team rules, not even.”
But when the Colts finally reached the end zone, Rainey’s next tweet shed some more light onto why he was let go by the Colts:
“Nice TD Boom even tho u was in the hallway with me that nite when we was horsing around with the fire extinguisher. Man up like i did.”

It’s unclear if what Rainey tweeted is true, but the local fire department did confirm that they responded to a call at Anderson University dorms, where a fire extinguisher was sprayed on July 27th.
Rainey was released from the Colts less than 24-hours from the incident, so it’s quite possible that an alleged incident in the dorms may have led to his release.
Rainey has since deleted the tweets and is blaming a family member for sending them out.
