For the third consecutive week, the USF baseball team had a player named to The American Weekly Honor Roll as Brandon Lawson was this week’s honoree.
Lawson dazzled in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday as he shutdown Columbia through seven innings. The Spring Hill, Fla. native allowed just two hits giving up one unearned run. He walked none and struck out five. Lawson retired the final 14 batters faced after a single in the third.
The right-hander has made three starts on the year standing at 2-0 with a 2.50 earned run average. He is holding opponents to a .227 batting average against in 18 innings. After issuing three walks in the first inning of his first collegiate start, Lawson has walked just two batters over the next 17 innings of work.
Joining Lawson on the Honor Roll was Jeff Gardner and Jared Ruxer of Louisville, Drew Griffin of Memphis and Howie Brey of Rutgers.
Aaron Garza of Houston was named the Pitcher of the Week while Brian O’Grady of Rutgers was named the Player of the Week.
