This weekend marks the start of the college basketball season and the UCF Knights will open the season in Tampa at the newly-renovated Sun Dome, against the USF Bulls. This will be the first of two meetings between the two schools this season as they will meet again in Orlando on January 2. These two programs will play every season as the Knights will be in the Big East conference next season.
The Knights are a young team with still many players with questions on what roles they will have on the team. One of the main players The Knights bring back is Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year Keith Clanton. The senior forward averaged 14.5 points and 8.1 rebounds last season and is among a group of UCF returnees that also includes Isaiah Sykes and Tristan Spurlock that will have to carry the load while the new players on the roster adjust.
USF returns four of its top-five scorers from last season’s team that finished sixth in the BIG EAST and won a pair of games in the NCAA Tournament before losing to Ohio University in the 3rd round of the NCAA Tournament.
UCF Head Coach Donnie Jones and USF Head Coach Stan Heath were both on the David Baumann Show to preview the upcoming season and the matchup against each other what the future holds for both programs.
