ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Central Florida was eyeing a return to Conference USA championship game last year before a 21-point loss at Southern Methodist sent the Knights into a 2-5 tailspin to end the season.
UCF enters Saturday’s matchup 4-0 in league play and in the driver’s seat in the East Division. It is again focused on getting back to the title game, but faces a Mustangs team fighting to get back into the race in the West and can again play the role of spoiler for the Knights.
The Knights are hoping to get another strong outing from senior running back Latavius Murray, who has run for five touchdowns the past two weeks.
That will be a challenge, though, opposite a SMU defense that has the top-ranked rushing defense in the conference.
