UCF freshman center Justin McBride has been named American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.
McBride, a 6-foot 10-inch, 310-pounder, has burst onto the scene in the past few games. He made a major impact in the Knights two games last week. The Starke, Fla. native came off the bench to average 9.5 points and 6.0 rebounds and shoot 72.7 percent from the field (8 of 11) as the Knights split a pair of American Athletic Conference games.
McBride scored 13 points, going 5-of-6 from the field, with five rebounds in a 75-74 win against USF on Saturday. He tallied six points with seven rebounds in a 76-70 loss at No. 20/22 Memphis.
In addition to McBride’s award, senior guard/forward Isaiah Sykes was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll. Sykes 27 points, including the game-winning basket, in Saturday’s 75-74 win over USF. He averaged 20.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game last week.
