UCF Basking in Move to Big East

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — UCF is finally getting to celebrate a move to the Big East Conference after a long wait.

The university formally accepted an all-sports membership to the league Wednesday. Gathering administrators and coaches together for the first time since the announcement Thursday, UCF president John Hitt said the move was a special moment for the school and called it a boost to its overall stature.

UCF is contractually bound to remain in Conference USA for another year, but coaches of the Knights’ football and basketball team say the benefits on the recruiting trail for their programs should show up before 2013.

A big draw on the football side is also the return of UCF’s football game with USF, which it hasn’t played since their original four-game series ended in 2008.
