ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFKnights.com) – The American Athletic Conference and ESPN announced Tuesday UCF’s regular-season finale at East Carolina on Thursday, Dec. 4, will kick off at 7:30 p.m. It will air nationally on ESPN.
The Knights already have seven of their 12 contests scheduled for national television: three on ESPN (BYU, Houston, East Carolina), two on ESPN2 (Penn State, Tulsa), one on SEC Network (Missouri) and another on a network to be determined (USF). More updates to the schedule will be released when they are finalized.
The Pirates will be making their debut in The American in 2014. As members of Conference USA, UCF and ECU battled every year from 2005-12 with the Pirates holding a 5-3 record during that stretch (9-3 vs. UCF overall since the first meeting in 1991).
From 2005-12, UCF (four) and ECU (two) combined for six of the eight C-USA East Division crowns.
UCF claims a 2-1 mark in the last three meetings, but has not won in Greenville since 2005. Seven of the last eight battles have been decided by two possessions or less.
In the Knights’ last year in C-USA in 2012, they entertained East Carolina on a Thursday night on CBS Sports Network, and erased an early 14-0 deficit for a 40-20 victory en route to the East Division title. Both teams finished 7-1 in the league, but that win proved to be the tiebreaker.
UCF went 12-1 in 2013, claiming the American Athletic Conference and Tostitos Fiesta Bowl trophies, defeated two top-10 opponents and finished No. 10 in the Associated Press Top 25. East Carolina also posted double-digit wins, going 10-3 capped off by a win in the Beef ‘O’ Brady’s Bowl.
