Clanton, an Orlando Christian Prep graduate who spent four years at UCF, continues his trend of playing hoops close to home.
He will be part of the Magic’s summer league roster, which the Magic will host July 7 to 12.
Clanton, the 2012 Conference USA preseason player of the year, was not selected in the two-round NBA Draft Thursday night.
He had a free pass to transfer after the NCAA hit the Knights with a postseason ban, but Clanton opted to stay at his hometown school for his senior season despite overtures from basketball powers. Clanton cemented his legacy as one of UCF’s all-time greats.
He averaged 14.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 blocks per game this season, and he wrapped up his four years with the Knights as the program’s all-time leader in rebounds (1,000), blocks (227), games played (129) and starts (121). He also ranks sixth in points (1,718).
Clanton said he was prepared to fight for a spot in the NBA.
“I just want to compete and get a chance,” Clanton said before the draft.
