Insider: What a Difference a Year Makes at UCF

One year ago this weekend UCF was hosting Southern Miss as a ranked program for the first time in school history. Now one year later on same weekend UCF is again playing at Southern Miss only this time it is Southern Miss that is the team that is ranked while UCF is just trying to get bowl eligible.
Southern Miss comes in with a 8-1 record and on top of CUSA Eastern Division  and is ranked 25th in BCS  Poll and 23rd in Coaches Poll. The Knights come in at 4-5 on the season and need to win 2 of the last 3 games  just to be bowl eligible. The Knights still have a mathematical chance of winning the division but must beat Southern Miss. “Mathematically, you have to win this to at least have a chance,” UCF Head Coach George O’Leary said

UCF has not beaten Southern Miss since 2007. Southern Miss Head Football Coach Larry Fedora has not lost to UCF since getting hired at Southern Miss in 2008.  The Knights will have to deal with one of the top running games in   the country as Southern Miss averages 206.8 ypg in rushing  which  ranks  first in the conference and 22nd in the country.   There is a running back committee  that are involved in running the ball for Golden Eagles but at the   top of the heap for  the time being is Jamal Woodyard with 475 yards and three Touchdowns, averaging close  to seven yards per carry. Southern Miss as a team averages a very    five yards  per attempt overall.

Last season Southern Miss came in to Orlando and upset UCF 31-21  knocking the Knights off the top 25 polls. What a difference  a year makes, UCF Hopes that  is the headline after saturday nights game.
