Knights  News and Notes

UCF is now 8-4 in CUSA.

Memphis and Southern Miss were upset on saturday.  Memphis lost at home to Utep while Southern Miss lost at Houston, so the conference standings just got tighter.  The top of the conference looks like this:

Southern Miss  9-3

Memphis         9-3

Tulsa                 9-4

UCF                  8-4

The Knights play at Rice on Wednesday night, followed by a home game against Utep on Saturday.

Other notes:

– Sources close to the UCF Football program said that defensive line coach Jim Panagos is leaving the Knights and heading to Rutgers for the same position.  He is from the New York area, so it is assumed that factored into the decision.  Panagos was 2009 DL Coach of the Year and his loss  is a significant one for UCF in an offseason that will have an all new defensive coaching staff in 2012.

– UCF Baseball opened its season by sweeping Long Island.  They get their first test of the season Wednesday night when they travel to Gainesville to take on # 1 Florida.
