Miami +14 vs. Notre Dame
A flashy offense versus a nasty defense in Chicago. The best part will be reliving all the great memories of one of college football’s most striking series during the 80’s. The Canes offense has been thriving off the big play. In five games, Miami has 9 TD plays longer than 20 yards. Stephen Morris has completed 10 passes of more than 20 yards down the field in the last two games alone. The Irish though have been awesome on defense. They’ve forced the third most turnovers in America, and believe it or not, they are the only FBS team not to trail in a game yet this year. I’ve said I don’t think Miami is very good, and while offensively they are explosive, defensively they are a train wreck, ranking 114th nationally. I go back and forth with this game, with my heart pointing out Notre Dame’s QB issues, their turnovers, and general lack of scoring. On the other hand, Kansas State routed Miami and this could be just like that. Seems like Vegas wants me to take those points. To that, I say, no thanks.
Notre Dame 30-14
Nebraska +3.5 @ Ohio State
Great QB matchup of duel threat specialists in Taylor Martinez and Braxton Miller. At this point, if not earlier, Urban Meyer has convinced his team of the goal of going unbeaten against the odds. The Huskers defense is just shaky enough that I think the Buckeyes get it done.
Ohio State 27-23
Washington +25 @ Oregon
This is another one of those “what is Vegas telling me with this line” games. The Huskies just knocked off Stanford and Oregon struggled for a half against Washington State. I got burnt taking favorites last week, but I think they think the Huskies are going to get run off the field.
Florida State -17 @ NC State
Before the year, I thought this would be a tricky game for the Noles. I still do. This is FSU’s first of just 3 trips outside the state, and the Wolfpack will test the Noles defense, assuming they don’t turn it over 5 times like they did at Miami. Upset? Not likely, but I see it being closer than you expect.
West Virginia +6.5 @ Texas
So they team that scored 70 last week and is ranked higher in both major polls is a touchdown dog? Vegas is begging you to bet on Geno and the Mountaineers. I’ll take the team I picked to win the Big XII.
Georgia +1.5 @ South Carolina
So it appears they think the Bulldogs are better. I certainly trust their offense more than the Gamecocks, regardless of how well Connor Shaw has played the last couple of weeks. I picked Georgia last year at home, and they let me down. What makes me think they’ll win on the road now?
South Carolina 27-24 OT
Michigan -3 @ Purdue
A big game for both teams in the Big 10 race, but a bigger one for Michigan because they play in the tougher division. The Wolverines had off, and will be ready.
Arizona +9 @ Stanford
The Cardinal had a couple of extra days to lick their wounds, and David Shaw will fix what ailed the offense in Washington. If he doesn’t, the lack of an Arizona defense will.
Virginia Tech +5.5 @ North Carolina
Before the season I picked UNC to win the coastal, and win this game. It will be tough sledding against the Hokies defense, but the Heels offense is more trustworthy than Virginia Tech’s.
North Carolina 23-20
Utah State +7.5 @ BYU
Have you met Kerwynn Williams? He is the Aggies Mr. Do-Everything on offense. BYU is two crazy plays away from being unbeaten. I think they’ll escape at home, but not by much.
Arkansas +7.5 @ Auburn
I am done with Arkansas. I gave them more credit than they deserved a week ago. I thought they’d fight. They have nothing left. On the bright side, I have a tough time seeing Auburn score. Two years ago this was a big game. Now? Cover your eyes.
Texas A&M -13 @ Ole Miss
Kevin Sumlin and Hugh Freeze both look like they have bright futures in coaching. Johnny Manziel is my guy at QB for the Aggies, and he’ll make enough plays to escape with a win.
Texas A&M 31-24
LSU -2.5 @ Florida
Gators coming off a bye week. Gators getting LB Jelani Jenkins back. Gators playing in the swamp. LSU offense S-T-R-U-G-G-L-I-N-G. LSU playing without 5 starters. If Florida doesn’t turn it over, they can establish some kind of running game, and Jeff Driskel plays with the confidence he showed in the 2nd halves of the Aggies and Vols games, Florida wins off the foot of Caleb Sturgis.
