Another close win for the No. 2 ranked Florida Gators, this time on the road as they defeated the Ole Miss Rebels 75-71.
Three Gators scored in double figures with senior guard Scottie Wilbekin leading the team with 18 points. He shot 50 percent from the floor and 40 from the three point line while also dishing out seven assists but turning the ball over five times.
Florida struggled with the Rebels the entire game, especially in the first half. They allowed Ole Miss to put up 42 points with senior guard Marshall Henderson scoring 22 of those points. Entering the second half however, the Gators were able to keep Henderson scoreless and hold the Rebels to just 29 points.
What made the difference in the game for the Gators were again last minute free throws. Under four minutes left, senior Patric Young went 4-4 at the free throw line to give the Gators some much needed breathing room.
A three pointer by sophomore guard Michael Frazier II and then a mid range jumper by Wilbekin followed to help keep Florida ahead. It wasn’t until ten seconds left when Frazier hit a pair of free throws to put the game out of reach.
This marks the Gators 19th straight win this season, improving their record to 25-2 and 14-0 in conference play. Their next game will be Tuesday as they stay on the road and head to Nashville to take on the Vanderbilt Commodores.
