The 2014 Florida football season may still be less than 50 days away, but a week full of SEC Media Days began today in Hoover, Alabama. Florida’s starting quarterback Jeff Driskel, cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III, and defensive lineman Dante Fowler Jr., accompanied head coach Will Muschamp and well represented the University of Florida during Monday’s event. This year was a bit different because it’s the very first time under Muschamp that Florida decided not to take a senior, instead Florida took its most talented players to the star-stunned event. This marks Driskel’s second straight trip to Media Days; Hargreaves III and Fowler’s first. According to media members, the three players and Muschamp walked into the media day circus with something they haven’t had in a while – confidence.

The main topic was the development of the new up-tempo, shotgun spread offense and how the team plans to bounce back from last year’s devastating season. It seems that with the new fast-paced offense and much healthier team Muschamp feels comfortable with where the team is at and where they’re headed this upcoming season.”It was good to see our offensive kids having fun again on the field in the spring. I was really excited about that, but probably what excites me the most is this is probably the most talent we’ve had on offense in my four years at Florida,” Muschamp said.
6-foot-4, 237 pound Driskel agreed with coach Muschamp and says new offensive coordinator Kurt Roper has made a tremendous impact on the squad already and described the changes in Florida’s new offense.“It’s a much different offense, a much quicker tempo…we’re going to spread the ball around. Coach Roper puts players in position to be successful. We have the players to be successful in this offense,” the redshirt Junior said. Gatorzone.com’s Scott Carter, also recognized Driskel’s positive attitude and excitement for the upcoming season.
It’s clear the Gators have no interest in repeating last season, especially knowing that Muschamp is on the hot seat. His response to questions regarding his job security is to bounce back and win games.
“There will be a lot of chatter about hot seat business. The way you combat that is having a winning football team, and winning football games, which is what we’re going to do. I think we’re going to have an outstanding year, I really do, I’m very confident in this football team and this staff. I think it’s the most complete team we’ve had since I’ve been here.”
Muschamp also announced that Florida will hold 8 open practices beginning Thursday, August 7th. The Gators season opener is scheduled for August 30th against Idaho, 7 p.m. at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
