NCAA Changes 15-Yard Penalty for Targeting

According to ESPN’s Brett McMurphy, the NCAA’s Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved a change so teams won’t be penalized 15 yards when a targeting call is overturned upon review.

According to, the NCAA revamped the targeting rule to include a player ejection in 2013 in order to place more emphasis on player safety. But even though the rule’s intent was noble, critics lashed out when a 15-yard penalty would be given even if an official overturned the call.

This seems like a solid move by the NCAA and it shows they’re listening to the concerns of coaches, players and fans in this situation.
