TALLAHASSEE — One day after Florida State lost one of its three men’s basketball assistant coaches, the Seminoles announced that former Georgia Southern head coach Charlton Young would be replacing him.
Head coach Leonard Hamilton said in a statement Tuesday afternoon that he was looking forward to having the experienced coach on his staff.
Young, a Miami native, expressed his own excitement about returning to his home state. Following from an earlier coaching stop as an assistant at Jacksonville, this will be just the second time Young has coached in Florida.
“As a native Floridian, I am excited to be part of coach [Leonard] Hamilton’s staff and proud to be part of the Florida State basketball tradition,” Young said in a news release. “Coach Hamilton is one of the coaches I have watched intently and learned a great deal from during my career. The opportunity to work alongside him as well as Stan Jones and Dennis Gates is very exciting to me.”
