This news is not nearly as exciting as extending the Sunshine State rivalry between Florida State and the Gators but, Florida has announced another addition to its future football schedule.
According to College Football Talk, UF and East Carolina have confirmed that the two football programs will compete in the 2015 season. The game will be played in Gainesville on Sept. 12 of that year.
“I’m sure many of our fans will remember the last time we played in The Swamp,” ECU AD Jeff Compher said. “While it’s a great opportunity to compete in that environment against a program with the tradition Florida has, I’m confident Coach (Ruffin) McNeill will have the Pirates ready to play.”
The last matchup between these two was in 1983. That was when the Gators were ranked No. 6 and they obviously succeeded with a 24-17 win over the unranked Pirates. That was the first and only meeting between the two football programs so this next meeting is something that has seemingly been years in the making.
