The first regular-season, non-conference game outside of the state of Florida since the 90’s for the Gators will be in 2017 against Michigan. They’ll face each other in the Cowboys Classic in Arlington, Texas on Saturday September 2nd.
Michigan is set to be the away team, making Florida the home team. The Gators schedule has been fairly consistent throughout the years, which is why Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley says that this is a great opportunity for the Gators. He says that this game will give them something for the fans to get excited about.
Each school will receive 25,000 tickets for the game to take place in the Dallas Cowboys home stadium. The AT&T Stadium hosted the Super Bowl and the 2014 NCAA Men’s Final Four is scheduled to take place there.
For Michigan, their return to Arlington brings upsetting memories. The Wolverines lost to Alabama in the 2012 Cowboys Classic. Michigan coach Brady Hoke says that the team is excited to return to Texas to expand their recruiting base.
This will be the third meeting between these two teams. The last match-up ended in a Michigan victory in the Capital One Bowl.
