Duke’s Alex Murphy Transfers To Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Former Duke forward Alex Murphy is transferring to Florida.

The 6-foot-9, 230-pound Murphy posted on his Twitter page Wednesday that he’s headed to Gainesville.

“It’s official, I’m a Florida Gator!” he wrote. “I’m more than excited and can’t wait to get down to Gainesville soon!!!”

The 16th-ranked Gators could not confirm Murphy’s decision, saying nothing would be official until a player is admitted into school.

Murphy’s older brother, Erik, scored 1,052 points in four years at Florida.

Alex Murphy, a third-year sophomore who failed to crack Duke’s rotation in two-plus seasons, intends to enroll at Florida in January and will try to apply for a waiver from the NCAA to play next fall. Murphy redshirted as a freshman because of concussion issues.
