Another Gator bites the dust. Quarterback Tyler Murphy announced his plans to transfer to another team. He is the seventh player to make this declaration over the past week.
Murphy just graduated Saturday as a junior and he is eligible to play right away in 2014. He started this season as the second-team QB and took over for Jeff Driskel, following his season-ending injury.
Murphy started six games with the Gators this season and then missed the final three games due to an injury. During his time on the field, he threw for over 1,200 yards, six touchdowns and five interceptions.
The starting quarterback position is still up for grabs this spring. The competition was set to be between Driskel, Murphy and Skyler Mornhinweg. Freshman QB Max Staver was the first quarterback to announce his departure last week.
Now, the position can go to Driskel, who will be a senior next season or Mornhinweg, who is a redshirt sophomore.
Murphy has not yet announced where he will play next year.
