MIAMI (AP) — Mario Cristobal remembers a time when Florida International had to scramble just to fill a roster. That’s no longer the case.
Coming off back-to-back bowl appearances, the Panthers signed the largest class in school history on Wednesday, 25 new players who will join four early enrollees. Of those, 19 carry at least three-star ratings by some of the various recruiting services and Cristobal is calling it “the top-rated class in FIU history.”
As usual, the recruiting class is Florida-centric, with 22 of the new faces from the Sunshine State and others from Louisiana, Georgia and South Carolina.
Cristobal turned down a chance this week to coach at Rutgers. He says that decision became “a point of strength” in recruiting, using it as proof of his commitment to FIU.
