Christian Ponder Up for QB Competition with Vikings
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder is not beating around the bush when it comes to the subject of his lack of success in the NFL.
The Vikings are not hiding their current QB competition which will involve all three of their players: Ponder, Matt Cassel, and rookie Teddy Bridgewater. According to Pro Football Talk, Ponder hasn’t taken as many reps as the other two during the spring.
It seems pretty obvious that Cassel is being trained to become the starter, with Bridgewater as the future starter, and Ponder in the background.
Ponder told the Pioneer Press that he understands why all of this is happening the way that it is.
“I’ll get opportunities through training camp and preseason to try to earn a spot. It’s not awkward — I understand what’s going on. I had some opportunities that I didn’t take full advantage of. If I would have played better, I wouldn’t be in the situation here right now. We’ll see how it plays out — football’s a crazy game.”
Back in his glory days, Ponder led the Florida State Seminoles through some successful seasons and everyone had high expectations for him once he was drafted into the league.
Some blame coaching, others blame him. But, there really is no blame to be pushed around here. Ponder said it himself. You play your best and you get a shot. If you’re not good enough, than you’re not good enough.
It’s as simple as that.
