Chiefs' Jovan Belcher Commits Suicide

Kansas City Chiefs player killed girlfriend, then committed suicide at team facility
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Police say Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher fatally shot his girlfriend early Saturday, then drove to Arrowhead Stadium and committed suicide in front of his coach and general manager.
Police spokesman Darin Snapp confirmed it was Belcher, a fourth-year player from West Babylon, N.Y., who played college ball at Maine. The woman's name has not yet been released.
Snapp said Belcher shot the woman at a Kansas City residence, then drove to the Chiefs facility. He thanked Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli and Romeo Crennel for all they had done for him, then shot himself.
The NFL says the Chiefs' home game against the Carolina Panthers will go on as scheduled tomorrow.
Police ID woman killed in Chiefs murder-suicide
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Police have identified the girlfriend of a Kansas City Chiefs player killed in a murder-suicide as 22-year-old Kasandra M. Perkins.

Authorities did not release a possible motive for the murder-suicide, though police said that Belcher and his girlfriend had been arguing recently. The two of them have a 3-month-old child.
Snapp says Belcher's mother recently had moved in with the couple, possibly to help with the baby. She called police just before 8 a.m. to report Perkins had been shot multiple times. Perkins was transported to a hospital, where she died a short time later.
