Yes, somebody out there thought Nik Vucevic was the 3rd best center in the NBA this season for the 20-62 Magic.

While there are other more important things to worry about and talk about in sports, it always catches my attention every time we have a major vote where we hand out votes for things other than the winner. The NBA had it’s All-NBA team(s) announced today. I don’t really care to argue about 1st team. Or even the 2nd or 3rd team. We could, but that isn’t the point of me writing this.

The point is what makes a voter decide to give votes to some of these guys. Here is the official list of others receiving votes:

Also receiving votes, with point totals: Brook Lopez, Brooklyn, 132 (7 First Team votes); Stephen Curry, Golden State, 72; LaMarcus Aldridge, Portland, 62; Chris Bosh, Miami, 59 (4); Joakim Noah, Chicago, 56 (3); Zach Randolph, Memphis, 45; Al Horford, Atlanta, 31 (2);Paul Pierce, Boston, 24; Al Jefferson, Utah, 20 (1); Tyson Chandler, New York, 19 (1); Roy Hibbert, Indiana, 9; Luol Deng, Chicago, 8; Kevin Garnett, Boston, 8; Ty Lawson, Denver, 8;Josh Smith, Atlanta, 7; Deron Williams, Brooklyn, 6; Pau Gasol, LA Lakers, 4; Serge Ibaka, Oklahoma City, 4; Omer Asik, Houston, 3; Kenneth Faried, Denver, 3; Raymond Felton, New York, 3; Kyrie Irving, Cleveland, 3; Carlos Boozer, Chicago, 2; Mike Conley, Memphis, 2;David West, Indiana, 2; Rudy Gay, Toronto, 1; JJ Hickson, Portland, 1; Andre Iguodala, Denver, 1; Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas, 1; Nikola Pekovic, Minnesota, 1; Rajon Rondo, Boston, 1;Nikola Vucevic, Orlando, 1.

We are humming along okay until we hit Ty Lawson. I like him. Actually let’s make this clear now, I LIKE ALL OF THESE PLAYERS. THEY ARE ALL GOOD PLAYERS. But the point is to pick the 6 best guards, 6 best forwards, and 3 best centers. That is the GOAL. We won’t all agree, but the pool of players receiving votes clearly should be much, much smaller. I am not sure how some of these guys are getting votes.

Most egregious, Ibaka? You can’t be serious. Faried? Huh? Raymond Felton? You shouldn’t vote anymore. Rudy Gay? How do you justify that? Rondo? He only played 38 games!!! Hickson? Pekovic? Vucevic? Good try, good effort.

This again, is not a rip on the players. They are all range from good to great. They had nice years, well, Rondo had a nice half season, but none of them should be even sniffing a vote. This is a rip on the voters who clearly aren’t taking the process seriously. You embarrass yourself and should own it, and explain it. Fans read and listen to you for NBA knowledge and then you go and do this???

Ridiculous.

By the way, here is the 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams if you were curious. And these were my picks for all the awards over a month ago.

ALL-NBA FIRST TEAM

LeBron James, Miami: (119 votes) 595 points

Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City: (102) 555

Tim Duncan, San Antonio: (45) 392

Kobe Bryant, LA Lakers: (91) 521

Chris Paul, LA Clippers: (97) 537

ALL-NBA SECOND TEAM

Carmelo Anthony, New York: (24) 397

Blake Griffin, LA Clippers: 132

Marc Gasol, Memphis: (38) 295

Tony Parker, San Antonio: (16) 273

Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City: (20) 306

ALL-NBA THIRD TEAM

David Lee, Golden State: 79

Paul George, Indiana: 73

Dwight Howard, LA Lakers: (17) 203

Dwyane Wade, Miami: (3) 145

James Harden, Houston: (5) 253

The University of South Florida football program received some outstanding news this morning when former Penn State quarterback Steven Bench announced he was transferring to USF.

Bench tweeted, “I’ve decided to attend the University of South Florida and become a bull!! #DoSomething.”

Bench chose South Florida over North Carolina State and Mississippi State, after visits with all three schools.

A Rivals’ and 247 three-star recruit out of Cairo, Georgia, Bench saw action as in two games for the Nittany Lions last year and figured to compete for the starting job in 2013.

Upon the arrival of junior college transfer Tyler Ferguson and incoming freshman Christian Hackenberg, Bench opted to transfer.

Due to last year’s sanctions following the Jerry Sandusky scandal at Penn State, Bench will not have to sit out a year and is eligible to play in the 2013 season.

Bench has three years of eligibility remaining and will battle for the starting job with senior Bobby Eveld and redshirt sophomore Matt Floyd.

A dual-threat quarterback who can help install Willie Taggart’s new offense, Bench fills a huge void for the Bulls after the loss of four-year starter B.J. Daniels.

Nerlens Noel moved down to Birmingham as soon as the semester ended in Lexington. Insurance is covering his rehab costs but he now has an apartment and is going through a Groundhog Day routine. He is in rehab by 9:30 a.m., out for lunch around noon and then back at it for a few hours in the afternoon.

His most important adviser is physical therapist Kevin Wilk for the next few weeks and months.

“Nerlens is three or four weeks ahead of most people with an ACL injury,” Wilk said Tuesday after putting him through a series of strengthening and stretching exercises. “He doesn’t have any swelling, no pain, has a nice dry knee and everything has been smooth.”

Noel looks to be in good spirits:
