The energetic centerfielder walked through the Milwaukee Brewers’ Maryvale clubhouse Wednesday afternoon, accepting numerous handshakes and hugs from teammates and team employees after word had spread that he would be signing a three-year, $24 million contract extension with the team.
Shortly after that, he made his way upstairs and did just that, putting the finishing touches on a deal that ties him to the team through the 2016 season.
Gomez, 27, signed a one-year, $4.3 million contract in January in his final year of arbitration eligibility. It was at that point he and his agent, Scott Boras, began discussing the possibility of a longer deal with the Brewers.
