Canes Hoops Take Luck of Irish, Beat ND
CORAL GABLES, Fla. Miami lived downtown Wednesday night, hitting their first four from distance and nine overall from beyond the arc, beating visiting Notre Dame at the BankUnited Center, 71-64.
Rion Brown scored 21 points to lead the Canes.
The Hurricanes (13-13, 4-9 Atlantic Coast Conference) built a 15-point lead early in the second half and withstood a late Irish rally in the final 5 minutes.
Notre Dame twice got to within a one-point deficit, the second on Demetrius Jackson's layup with 22 seconds remaining that cut Miami's lead to 65-64.
Brown's two free throws with 21 seconds left put Miami ahead, 67-64. Raphael Akpejiori added two throws with 11 seconds remaining after he was fouled rebounding Demetrius Jackson's missed shot.
Pat Connaughton scored 22 points for Notre Dame (14-13, 5-9).
The Hurricanes never trailed after a 13-0 run midway through the first half. Garrius Adams' jumper with 8:59 remaining capped the run and gave Miami a 24-10 lead.
The conference win was Miami's first at home this season.

Miamis first points came at the 18:45 mark on Rion Brown's three-pointer.
Miami made their first four three-pointers and first seven of eight overall.
Garrius Adams scored in double-figures (14) for the seventh straight game and 15th time this season.
Rion Brown recorded his second straight double-double (21/11) Wednesday. It is the first time this year that the senior has had consecutive double-doubles and fourth time overall that he has recorded one in 2013-14.

With three 3-pointers against Notre Dame, Rion Brown is currently No. 10 on Miamis all-time list of 3-point shots made in a career. His 163 trail No. 9 Johnny Hemsley (164). Jack McClinton holds the record with 286 made from distance.
Brown is also closing in on 1,000 career points, as he currently has notched 993, including 21 against Notre Dame. Only 34 previous Canes have scored at least 1,000 points for UM, including Durand Scott and Reggie Johnson from last years team, and Malcolm Grant from Coach Ls first season at the U. Manu Lecomte has recorded an assist in 12 straight games (32 during the stretch).
Raphael Akpejiori has scored in five straight games for the first time this season, scoring three against Notre Dame, one against Virginia Tech, four against Florida State, two against Pittsburgh and three vs. NC State. He also recorded at least one block in three straight games for the first time this season.
