Canes Hoops Falls To NC State, 56-55
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Despite 20 points from senior Rion Brown and double-figure scoring days from Garrius Adams and Manu Lecomte, Miami dropped their home ACC tilt against visiting NC State, 56-55.
ACC leading scorer T.J. Warren scored 19 of his 27 points in the second half to help lead NC State to the win.
Ralston Turner scored 16 of his 17 points in the first half for NC State (15-8, 5-5), which was won four of five.
Brown’s 20 points led Miami (11-12, 2-8), which dropped to 0-6 in conference home games.
Miami’s Raphael Akpejiori had a chance to tie the game at the free-throw line with 3.5 seconds left. He had grabbed an offensive rebound following a miss by Manu Lecomte, who scored 13 points.
Akpejiori, who was 4 for 4 from the line this season, made the first and missed the second.
The rebound was corralled by Kyle Washington, who missed both free throws and Brown’s three-quarter heave was well short.

Allowing NC State just 56 points, Miami has held 15 of its last 16 opponents to less than 70 points, and only three teams overall this season have scored more than 70 points on the Canes: 80-Georgia Southern, 71-George Washington, 74-Maryland.
In eight of the last nine conference games, Miami has held its opponent considerably below their offensive season scoring averages. NC State entered the game averaging 71.9 ppg, and left the BUC with just 56 points.
Every Cane who touched the floor against NC State grabbed at least one rebound.
Davon Reed knocked down one from distance today, extending his streak to five straight games with a 3-pointer.
Rion Brown scored in double-figures (20) for the fifth-straight game and 18th time this season. Brown has hit multiple threes in five-straight games, connecting on three against NC State. With three 3-pointers against NC State, Brown is currently No. 10 on Miami’s all-time list of 3-point shots made in a career. His 155 trail No. 9 Johnny Hemsley (164). Jack McClinton holds the record with 286 made from distance. Brown is also closing in on 1,000 career points, as he currently has notched 926, including 20 against NC State. Only 34 previous Canes have scored at least 1,000 points for UM, including Durand Scott and Reggie Johnson from last year’s team, and Malcolm Grant from Coach L’s first season at the U.
With 24 minutes against NC State, senior Erik Swoope played in his 100th games as a Cane, joining Rion Brown (125) and Garrius Adams (109) in the century club.
Garrius Adams scored in double-figures (10) for the fourth-straight game and 12th time this season.
Raphael Akpejiori has scored in back-to-back games for the first time this season, scoring three vs. NC State and two against Pittsburgh. He also tied a career high with 22 minutes, previously set in 2011 against UNF.
