Canadian Snowboarder McMorris OK Despite Injury
KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia (AP) — Canadian snowboarder Mark McMorris says his broken rib won’t stop him from competing at the Olympics.
McMorris was able to complete several practice runs down the slopestyle course on Tuesday, less than two weeks after a nasty tumble at the X Games left the gold-medal favorite hobbled.
The 20-year-old McMorris says he’s battling through the pain as best he can. He was the prohibitive favorite to capture the first-ever slopestyle gold medal but now says he considers himself simply lucky to compete.
McMorris isn’t the only contender who is dealing with an injury. Shaun White twisted his left wrist in practice on Tuesday, and medal contender Torstein Horgmo of Norway will miss the games after breaking his collarbone in practice on Monday.
