Can UCF Be A Marquee Program For The American?

UCF_Beckton_2013As the American Athletic Conference began to take shape during the spring and the summer, commissioner Mike Aresco talked about the importance UCF could play in the identity of the new league.

Some of that was tied in to its rivalry with USF, yes, but Aresco also called UCF a “sleeping giant,” pointing to its enrollment, rapid growth and positive results on the field.

“We’re excited about a lot of things with UCF,” Aresco told the Sentinel this summer. “The university, it’s one of the foremost universities. People don’t realize how large and influential it is, and I really applaud the things they are doing on the athletic front.”

After two weeks of the college football season, only three undefeated teams remain in The American: No. 7 Louisville, Houston and the Knights.
