Can This Year's Marlins Be Last Year's Tigers?
The 2014 Miami Marlins have a chance of becoming the 2013 Detroit Tigers.
No, I'm not saying that they're going to make it the league championship series, but they could accomplish something else the Tigers have in two of the last three years. What exactly is this? The Marlins have a chance of having both the league's MVP and CY Young award winners come from their team.
Last season, the Tigers had Max Scherzer take home the AL CY Young award and Miguel Cabrera take home his second consecutive MVP award. The Marlins, however, have some pretty good players on their roster as well in Jose Fernandez and Giancarlo Stanton.
Fernandez, 21, is highly regarded as one of the best pitchers in baseball. So far this season, he is 2-1 with a 2.66 ERA and 12.5 strikeouts per nine innings.
Stanton, 24, probably has the most raw power of any hitter in Major League Baseball. So far this season, he leads the majors in RBI's with 26 and is tied for the Major League lead in home runs with 6.
I'm not saying this is going to happen, but if the Marlins can sneak into the wildcard race this might be more of a possibility.
