Calvin Pryor Selected by Jets
With the 18th overall pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected Louisville safety Calvin Pryor.
How Sports Talk Florida sees the pick...
At 5-foot-11, 207 pounds, Pryor developed a reputation as one of the most physical defensive players in college football. In fact,?he put together a streak of knocking opponents out of games for three-straight weeks.
A native of Port St. Joe, Florida, Pryor was a three-year starter for the Cards, recording 218 total tackles, 11 tackles for losses, two sacks, seven interceptions and nine forced fumbles over the course of his career.
As a junior this past year, he?recorded 75 tackles, five pass breakups and three interceptions, earning First-team All-AAC honors. The previous season, he earned Second-team All-Big East honors.
His?aggression and hard-hitting style may be an issue at the next?level, particularly with the?changing landscape of the league in terms of safety. He'll need to make a conscientious effort to use his shoulder pads versus the crown of his helmet.
If he can channel that aggression and keep it within the rules, he'll give offensive coordinators fits.
He is best suited for playing in the box and can?deliver a game-changing hit.
