When the NBA season began this year both the Chicago Bulls and the Brooklyn Nets were considered title contenders and serious threats to dethrone the Miami Heat for the East crown. Following season ending injuries to Bulls Derrick Rose and Nets Brook Lopez, just making the playoffs would be a miracle for both teams.
Whats a little more surprising is Chicago (10-16) who by now is used to playing without its star is the ninth-seed in an Eastern Conference thats filled with terrible teams.
Brooklyn (9-18) may be the most disappointing team in the NBA. Rookie head coach Jason Kidd has distanced himself from lead assistant Lawrence Frank and following his fake spilled drink to gain a timeout earlier this year, the Nets may have turned into the laughing stock of the league.
The short-handed Bulls will be trying to win consecutive games for the first time in more than a month. Luol Deng Chicago’s leading scorer will be out with a sore left Achilles, while Jimmy Butler (sprained right ankle) and Kirk Hinrich (back) will both be game-time decisions.
Brooklyn thought with the additions of Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry they would be much better at this point of the season.
