Buffalo’s AD Danny White should be high on USF’s list
The person who replaces University of South Florida athletic director Doug Woolard when he retires in June of 2015 should be young, creative and have a clear vision of how to make the Bulls power. There is a guy who is getting looks from a number of big time programs around the country and his name is Danny White.
The University of Buffalo athletic director who is in his first year with the Bulls is one of the youngest to hold that position in all of major college sports.
In just one year he has done an outstanding job of creating support from the student body , alumni and local business community in up state New York. But he came to that small school with a big time resume.
White, is a former basketball player at Notre Dame, and as senior associate athletics director at the University of Mississippi. Many Ole Miss fans had hoped that he would have stayed with the SEC school and in time became their A.D. in say five years.
But White want to be an AD and the University of Buffalo made him the highest paid AD in the Mid America Conference. They gave him total control to hire and fire coaches as well as remake their image. White sees Buffalo earning respect alongside such stalwarts as Louisville and Boise State—two programs that, White notes, have changed their national profiles in the modern era of college athletics.
White is a high energy guy with plenty of big idea’s and that is the kind of guy USF needs. Over the next few weeks we will profile some candidates that should be on the USF list to replace Woolard.
