BREAKING: Bucs Wide Receiver Mike Williams Stabbed in the Leg
Update: Williams was discharged from the hospital late Sunday. Police have issued an arrest warrant for Williams’ brother, Eric Baylor, on a charge of aggravated battery/domestic violence. If you have any information about Baylor’s whereabouts, please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-8477.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Williams is being treated at St. Joseph’s Hospital after he was reportedly stabbed in the thigh by his brother Sunday night.
According to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Williams and his brother were “horsing around” at Williams’ Avila home, when he was struck in the thigh area with a kitchen knife.
When deputies were called to the home at approximately 5 p.m., brother, Eric Baylor, 23, was not present.
“We are aware of the situation that occurred at the residence of Mike Williams and are working with him and the authorities to get additional information,” the Bucs said in a statement.
“While we have limited knowledge at this time, our primary concern is for the safety and well bring of all involved. We will refrain from further comment until we can get a better understanding of the situation.”
This isn’t the first time Williams’ name has surfaced in the news this offseason. He is currently facing misdemeanor charges for criminal mischief and trespassing after an unspecified incident in December, along with domestic issues and an incident resulting in damage to a neighbor’s property.
In 2010, he was arrested and charged with DUI, although charges were later dropped. Coming out of Syracuse, most talent evaluators had regarded Williams as a first-round talent, but off-field concerns dropped him to the fourth round.
But by last offseason, the Bucs believed he’d cleaned up his act, signing Williams to a six-year, $40 million contract. He then missed 10 games with a hamstring injury.
