Bucs Trade Up to Draft UM RB Mike James

Just minutes after the Bucs traded LeGarrette Blount to the New England Patriots, the team traded up in the sixth round to draft Miami running back Mike James 189th overall.

The Bucs used the seventh-round pick acquired in the Blount trade to move up from the 196th spot.

At 5-foot-11 and 222 pounds, James is a powerful, versatile back with a a ‘can-do-all’ skill set, much like Doug Martin and Brian Leonard.

In nine games for the Canes last season, he rushed for 621 yards on 147 carries and caught 30 passes for 344 yards receiving, with nine touchdowns.

He scored four touchdowns, including a receiving touchdown in an overtime win against Georgia Tech last year, with three touchdowns and 164 all-purpose yards against Duke.
