Upon his arrival in Tampa Bay, Buccaneers new general manager Jason Licht vowed to bring in competition at the quarterback position. He got to work in that department Monday, signing free agent QB Mike Kafka, Sports Talk Florida has learned.

Kafka spent the 2013 season with the New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars. He completed 11 of 26 pass attempts last preseason for 61 yards and an interception.

A fourth-round draft pick by the Eagles in 2011, Kafka served as a backup to Michael Vick and Kevin Kolb. Seeing action in four games his second season, Kafka went 11 of 16 for 107 passing yards and two interceptions.

In addition to signing Kafka, the Bucs waived offensive lineman Gabe Carimi, running back Michael Hill and quarterback Jordan Rodgers. Defensive tackle Derek Landri was released.
