The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made their release of Carl Nicks official late Wednesday morning, and they have signed cornerback Kip Edwards with the vacant roster spot.

An undrafted free agent out of Missouri in 2013, Edwards (5-10, 190) began his NFL career in Buffalo. He was waived at the end of the preseason and spent last year on practice squads in both Cleveland and Minnesota, where he played under Leslie Frazier, now the Bucs defensive coordinator.

Edwards is the second cornerback the Bucs have signed this week. On Monday the team re-signed Anthony Gaitor, ensuring the team has players to occupy those positions and compete during camp while both Alterraun Verner (hamstring) and Rashaan Melvin (ankle) recover from injuries.
