Bucs Release Wide Receiver Lavelle Hawkins
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released veteran wide receiver Lavelle Hawkins, the team announced today.
Hawkins, who signed with the team as a free agent in April and played for offensive coordinator Jeff Tedford at Cal, was buried in a deep pool of receivers, seeing action mostly with the third-team offense.
On Saturday against the Dolphins, Hawkins caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from third-string quarterback Mike Kafka.
Hawkins spent the first five seasons of his career with the Titans and spent last year with the Chargers.
The Bucs have a number of receivers they still need to evaluate and make a decision on, so Hawkins’ release won’t be the first. The group currently includes Vincent Jackson, Mike Evans, Louis Murphy, Chris Owusu, Russell Shepard, Skye Dawson, Tommy Streeter and Eric Page.Bucs Release Wide Receiver Lavelle Hawkins by Jenna Laine
