Bucs Release Cornerback DJ Moore
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are less than 48 hours from reporting to training camp and already some roster moves are being made.
Cornerback D.J. Moore, who was expected to compete for the nickel back role, has been released.
Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier had said at the end of OTAs that Moore had the inside track on the position due to experience, but some minor injuries forced him to miss minicamp.
The injuries, depth at the position, along with less experience playing special teams are what he believes played a role in his release.
Moore had previously spent four seasons with the Bears playing for Lovie Smith. He also spent last season with the Carolina Panthers.
Despite the release, he described his experience in Tampa as a very position one. He said enjoyed his time with the players and coaches, many of whom he worked with back in Chicago.
“I was released by people that loved and respected me, that drafted me and showed me how to play football [and] better yet, understand it.”
