Bucs Place LB Casillas on IR, Sign Lansanah

Bucs linebacker Jonathan Casillas

The 2013 season is officially over for Bucs starting strong-side linebacker Jonathan Casillas, who was officially placed on season-ending injured reserve today with a knee injury. To replace him, the team signed linebacker Danny Lansanah from the New York Jets’ practice squad.

Casillas, who started the season as a backup at the strong-side linebacker position and eventually moved into a starting role, suffered the injury Sunday against the Carolina Panthers and continued to play through it.

He underwent an MRI Monday. The specifics of the knee injury are unknown at this time, but he will need surgery, head coach Greg Schiano said.

Casillas finishes his first season as a Buccaneer with 34 combined tackles, 23 of them solo, along with two pass break-ups and a forced fumble in Week 1 against the New York Jets.

A former All-Big East product out of Connecticut, Lansanah entered the league as a undrafted free agent by signing with Green Bay in 2008. He played in five games for the Packers as a rookie and recorded two special teams tackles.

Lansanah started 34-of-45 games at UConn, finishing with 323 tackles, 35 tackles for a loss and 10 interceptions.
