Bucs Place Danny Gorrer on IR/Designated for Return, Re-sign Gary Gibson

9602The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have placed cornerback Danny Gorrer on the injured reserve/designated to return list, the team announced Tuesday.

Gorrer, 27, suffered a groin injury during training camp and re-aggravated it during the preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

In that game, Gorrer picked off former Ravens teammate Joe Flacco. He did not participate in the remainder of the preseason.

The injured reserve/designated to return list was created last year to allow each team to select one player on the roster suffering from a significant but not season-ending injury to re-join the team at a later date.

Previously, the ‘IR’ designation meant players were out for the entire year.

This is the second year the Bucs have used this designation on a cornerback. Last year, the team used it on Anthony Gaitor, who was battling a hamstring strain.

Gorrer will not be eligible to return until Week 8, but can begin practicing with the team in Week 6.

Bucs re-sign Gary Gibson, proving more insurance at DT

Just three days after the Bucs cut defensive tackle Gary Gibson, he’s already back with the team. gary-gibson-football-headshot-photo

It’s a move that provides insurance for a position that was looking awfully thin when the initial 53-man roster came out.

Cutting Gibson was a puzzling move to begin with, considering his experience at both nose tackle and three-technique. Not to mention the interior defensive line was decimated by injuries three years ago.

The Bucs claimed nose tackle Chris Jones off waivers from the Texans on Monday, but a fifth defensive tackle certainly helps shore up a once-vulnerable position for the team.

Bucs sign WR Skye Dawson to practice squad, release Jace Daniels

Coach Greg Schiano called his roster a “fluid situation” Monday, and he wasn’t kidding.

The practice squad got a new addition in former TCU wide receiver Skye Dawson, who spent training camp with the Washington Redskins.

The 5-foot-9, 183-pound speedster might not provide much in terms of offensive production, but with 4.39 speed, this All-American track star is certainly a groomable punt and kick returner.

Right now, Eric Page is slated to do both.

To make room for Dawson, the team released offensive tackle Jace Daniels.
