Bucs Look To Improve Running Game & O-Line For Week 2
Posted By Charles Mager On August 16, 2014 @ 4:07 PM In Insider - Bucs,Insider Main,NFL,NFL - Tampa Bay Buccaneers | No Comments
Last week, the Bucs lost to last year’s doormat Jacksonville Jaguars 16-10 with the only Bucs touchdown coming late in the fourth quarter on a six-yard pass from backup QB Mike Glennon to WR Tommy Streeter.
While their defense was not all that shabby, despite playing the team with the worst record in 2013, their offense certainly has room for improvement. During Week 1, the Bucs had two turnovers & only made the red zone one time, leading to their only touchdown.
The best way for the Bucs to turn the tables in Week 2 is to have their running game utilized more to get an increase in first downs, thus leading to more time in the red zone.
Glennon performed admirably last Friday, completing 11 out of 19 passing attempts totaling 140 yards & one touchdown.
On the other hand, the Bucs rushing game seemed incompetent. Not one RB averaged more than five yards per play & the longest rushing play during the game was only 11 yards. When you only average 3.3 yards per carry, you don’t get much respect.
But not all the blame can be put on those running backs. After all, they need people to protect & guard them and it doesn’t appear that their offensive line is exceeding expectations.
It is understandable to say that the Bucs’ offensive line is not the best in the NFL. As a matter of fact, according to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN , the Bucs don’t even know who their starting guards are going to be tonight. Their offensive team chemistry has plenty of room for improvement as well without one or two men standing out in a good way.
That’s the beauty of the preseason, discover strengths & weaknesses, make bold moves & develop a team chemistry before the season begins.
