The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reached an agreement with wide receiver Mike Williams on a six-year deal, the team announced this morning.

The deal is worth $40.25 million and will replace the final year of Williams’ rookie deal, keeping him in Tampa Bay through the 2018 season.

Williams enters his fourth season with the Buccaneers. Last year, he caught a career-high 996 receiving yards last year with 9 touchdowns lining up opposite Vincent Jackson.

The duo became part of one of the league’s strongest receiving tandems, helping quarterback Josh Freeman set a franchise record for passing yards (4,065) and touchdowns (27) in a single season.

A fourth-round draft pick out of Syracuse in 2010, Williams amassed 964 yards on 65 receptions and 11 touchdowns, leading NFL rookies and setting a franchise record for most receiving touchdowns in a single season.

Williams was one of 14 Buccaneers set to become free agents at the end of the 2013 season. Locking him up long-term will continue to provide stability for a Bucs offense seeing an unprecedented level of production.
