The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were hopeful he’d make his return this week to help out rookie quarterback Mike Glennon in his NFL debut, but instead tight end Tom Crabtree, who has not played in a regular season game for the Bucs, will once again be out.
Crabtree has suffered a setback in his recovery from a high ankle sprain. He did not practice with the team Friday and was officially ruled out by head coach Greg Schiano in his post-practice press conference.
Crabtree, who was signed as a free agent from the Green Bay Packers this offseason, had been practicing with the team in a limited capacity and was hopeful this could be the week he made his debut for the Bucs.
The Bucs are already very thin at the tight end position. Luke Stocker was placed on IR with a hip injury and the team released Danny Noble, who had just been activated from the practice squad last Saturday before the Patriots game.
The Bucs currently have two healthy tight ends on the active roster in Nate Byham and Tim Wright.Bucs' Crabtree Suffers Setback, Ruled Out vs. Arizona by Jenna Laine
