The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have claimed defensive tackle Chris Jones and wide receiver Russell Shepard off waivers, and releasing Tiquan Underwood and Najee Goode [2].

A sixth-round draft pick out of Bowling Green, Jones spent training camp with Houston and was one of a few players the Texans had hoped would clear waivers to join their practice squad. Instead, he joins the Bucs’ 53-man roster.

At 6-foot-3, 308 pounds, he’s got the natural size to play nose, and most had pegged him as 3-4 guy, but he’s capable of playing three-technique and five technique.

Considering the Bucs only opted to keep three defensive tackles on the 53-man roster as of yesterday, one could say a move like this was expected. Jones is a talented and groomable player who could potentially learn multiple roles.

Shepard, an undrafted free agent out of LSU, spent training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles. He was a multi-faceted weapon on offense in college, lining up at quarterback, wide receiver, and running back.

He finished his college career with 733 rushing yards, 565 receiving yards and 10 total touchdowns (five rushing, five receiving).
