Bucs Camp: What We’ve Learned About the Team
Thursday marks the last day of Bucs training camp. Through ups and downs and many changes, the team has made it to the end of camp.
There was a lightning delay at the start of Thursday’s practice, just as there was on the very first day of camp. Does that mean something? You can read into that as you will, but the team still got some last minute drills in as they prepared for their second preseason game against the Dolphins Saturday.
There are some specific things that stuck out during camp this year and the most important has to do with coach Lovie Smith. Smith showed from the very beginning that he is here to make a difference. The players have taken notice and many have commented on how different the atmosphere and team environment is from last year.
Offensively, QB Josh McCown has proven to be the leader this team needs. With threats like rookie WR Mike Evans and TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins, McCown has strong assets he’ll utilize this season.
The rookies showed Smith and the rest of the coaching staff that they’re here to work hard and be successful. But, we do still have question marks as we prepare for the regular season. There have been some inconsistencies on the offensive line and ever since Carl Nicks left the team, Smith has been giving different players a shot for first-team play.
Guard Jamon Meredith isn’t playing according to Smith’s liking, so the guard position has been up for grabs. Jace Daniels will start at guard against Miami.
