The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed former New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders defensive end Trevor Scott, the team announced Tuesday morning.
Scott, a five-year veteran, spent last season with the Patriots, where we recorded 3 sacks and 14 tackles. Prior to that, he spent four years with the Raiders.
“He’s just a guy that we thought we could take a look at and see if he can help us be better,” said Bucs head coach Greg Schiano. “We’ve got a couple practices and a game to look at him, and we’ll determine from there.”
A sixth-round draft pick out of Buffalo in 2008, Scott played in 72 career games with 18 starts, recording 111 tackles, 16.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and one pass breakup.
“He’s a good all-around player. We’re going to take a look at him and see how he fits, if he fits,” added Schiano.
Scott’s signing provides more competition at an area where the team is still searching for answers, particularly with Da’Quan Bowers.
Bowers has not looked particularly impressive against first-team offensive tackles this preseason and has struggled at times with consistency. There have also been concerns about his playing shape.
Through two preseason games, the Bucs defensive line has yet to record a single sack.
