Bucs Add Former Patriots Linebacker Dane Fletcher
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have added former Patriots linebacker Dane Fletcher, the team announced Sunday.
According NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, the deal is for one year and over $2 million, with $1.2 million guaranteed.
A former undrafted free agent out of Montana State, Fletcher spent the last three seasons as a backup in New England, recording 26 tackles last season and posting a special teams-leading 15 tackles.
Back in college, Fletcher lined up primarily as a 4-3 defensive end. He has the ability to line up as a pass rusher in a 3-4 defense too, and can play both inside and outside linebacker.
The Patriots even found use for the 6-foot-2, 245-pound frame to line up at fullback in the red zone, so there’s tons of versatility.
Fletcher did suffer a knee injury that forced him to miss the entire 2012 season. Before that, in 2011, he started five of 10 games, recording 32 tackles and totaling 81 tackles for his career.
