Bucks' Sanders Suspended Under Drug Policy

NEW YORK (AP) Milwaukee Bucks center Larry Sanders will be suspended without pay for five games for violating the NBA drug policy when he returns from injury.

Sanders said in a statement released by the team Friday that he was penalized for using marijuana, the latest setback since signing a four-year extension worth about $44 million in the offseason.

The 6-foot-11 Sanders is out for the season because of a fractured right orbital bone. He was injured Feb. 8 when Houston's James Harden elbowed him in the right eye while going for a rebound. He had surgery shortly afterward.

Sanders also missed nearly two months this season after tearing a ligament in his right thumb during a fight at a Milwaukee night club. He averaged 7.7 points and 7.2 rebounds in 23 games.
