Bucs, Eric Wright Agree To Reworked Contract

The Buccaneers and cornerback Eric Wright have reached a new contract for 2013, the team said Tuesday.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Wright is taking a major paycut, with his new deal for 2013 worth $1.5 million at minimum and $3 million at maximum.
Wright was guaranteed $7.75 million in salary in 2013, but a four-game suspension a season ago made that null-and-void. Wright reportedly lost a grievance on the matter — and thus lost half of the guaranteed money he was due in the five-year, $38 million deal he signed with Tampa Bay in 2012.
At one point, the club was willing to consider dealing Wright, who had something of disappointing first season with the Buccaneers, but his departure would have left the secondary quite thin at cornerback. As it stands, the Buccaneers could still stand to add another player or two at the position; they have been the team most linked to the Jets’ Darrelle Revis as speculation swirls around one of the game’s top cornerbacks.
The 27-year-old Wright recorded 37 tackles and intercepted one pass for Tampa Bay in 2012. He has started 81 games in six NFL seasons. A second-round pick of the Browns in 2007, Wright played four seasons in Cleveland before joining Detroit for 2011.
